Playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar attempts suicide, hospitalised in Hyderabad


Popular playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar attempted suicide at her Nizampet, Hyderabad residence on March 2. It is reportedly believed that the singer consumed sleeping pills. According to reports, she was found unconscious at her residence and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The singer is currently stable and on ventilator support.

It was the security personnel of her apartment who informed the residents when Kalpana failed to open her door for two days. Her neighbours called the police, and after that, proper procedures were adhered to. The reason for her attempted suicide is not known.


Kalpana's husband was in Chennai when this happened. On getting the news, he rushed to Hyderabad.


Kalpana is the daughter of famous playback singer TS Raghavendra. She appeared on television in Star Singer Malayalam and became the winner in 2010. After winning, she worked alongside various famous composers like Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. She is a music family background and entered the industry through music at the age of five.


She has recorded more than 1,500 songs in different languages during her long career. Besides singing, Kalpana also made a short foray into acting with a cameo in Kamal Haasan's Punnagai Mannan.


Kalpana participated in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1, which was hosted by Jr NTR. Kodi Parakura Kaalam from AR Rahman's Maamannan and Telangana Tejam from Keshava Chandra Ramavath are some of the famous songs she sang recently. She has also been a judge on singing-based reality shows.
