The Democratic Party's approval rating fell to 31% after President Donald Trump was elected
Former Obama adviser Van Jones proclaimed that the Democratic Party was "screwed" and stuck between two strongly unpopular factions.
The CNN pundit couldn't help but burst out laughing at the "nightmare" Democrats were in when discussing the current tension between members of the party.
"Look, man, we're hosed," Jones told "CNN Newsroom" Sunday. "I mean, Democrats are clueless. This is a nightmare. You know, somebody like Donald Trump, we thought at least we'd have Hakeem Jeffries in the Speaker's chair to rein him in if we didn't have Kamala in there to do the right thing."

Jones spoke about how the party remains stuck between the establishment members and the more progressive members with no clear direction to go forward.
"Listen, I mean, the Democratic Party is facing a huge collection of internal crises. You have a party which got caught two ways," he said. "One, having to defend a broken status quo nobody likes because they thought that Donald Trump was gonna make it worse. But when you're defending the status quo, you're gonna lose."

"And then insulting most Americans in the country, labeling everybody sexist and racist and transphobic and all the other insults, and then 'please follow us.' That's not a winning strategy, folks. Being in favor of a dysfunctional status quo and insulting most of the country, as it turns out, is not as well-liked as my party anticipated. And so it's going to take some time for folks to get it sorted," Jones inserted.
The Democratic Party has for the most part suffered following Trump's election in 2024. During Trump's first week in office, just 31% of the public held a favorable view of the Democratic Party according to a Quinnipiac University poll.

The party continued to struggle with low approval ratings following Democratic Rep. Al Green's controversy for yelling and interrupting President Donald Trump while speaking to Congress on Tuesday. According to a CNN instant poll, 80% of those surveyed believed Green's actions were inappropriate.

Green was subsequently censured by the House of Representatives with 10 House Democrats supporting the motion.
A report issued on Thursday also indicated other troublesome Democratic members of Congress were disciplined by party members in private.
