Mezzenga said during their early conversations that he was 'ignorant' to politics
"Love is Blind" couple Sara Carton and Ben Mezzenga did not tie the knot in the season finale of the show, as Carton was hesitant about Mezzenga's political and religious beliefs, such as Black Lives Matter.
"I questioned him about Black Lives Matter," Carton explained to her family in the car, after turning down Mezzenga. "And I'm no expert, but when I questioned him about it, he's like, 'I guess I never really thought too much about it.' That resonated with me. Particularly in our own city, like how could it not? How could it not make you think about something?"
On Netflix's "Love is Blind," the women and men try to find their forever love without ever laying eyes on them. When the singles hit it off, they get engaged and see the other individual for the first time in person. After a couple gets engaged, they get ready for their wedding day amidst the rough seas of the outside world.
In front of the altar, Carton quoted, "I love you so much, but I've always wanted a partner to be on the same wavelength."

She complained that there was "no curiosity coming from his side."
Carton clarified that she also inquired about Mezzenga's church and the church's position.
"And he said he didn't know, and so then I watched a sermon on the internet, about sexual identity, and it was traditional. I told that to Ben, and he didn't really have much to say about it," she said. "I want someone to think about that stuff."
Earlier this season, Mezzenga informed Carton that he had "no discomfort around that community at all," following Carton's announcement that her sister is gay and that she was no longer religious due to the Catholic Church's opinions regarding gay marriage, Today reports.

Carton uncovered in her interviews with Mezzenga that she did not develop an interest in politics until President Donald Trump took office and the George Floyd murder in 2020, as reported.
"I'm a little clueless to that type of thing. Like, I didn't go to the polls during the last election. Just so long as I don't know, it's not going to, you know, matter that much," Mezzenga responded. "I've been keeping pretty much out of things."
Mezzenga and Carton were by no means alone as a politically different couple.
Virginia Miller and Devin Buckley also discussed their politics, even though Buckley informed Miller that he wasn't "super big into politics," reports Today.
Miller informed Buckley that she was receptive to alternative political opinions, but indicated it would be unsettling if Buckley was "way on the other side of the spectrum" on specific matters.
