It’s All Coming Back to Her Now—Celine Dion Rakes in Triple What She Paid for Las Vegas Mansion

The megamansion in the affluent Summit Club development sold last month for $30 million

Maybe she didn’t want to be “all by herself” in a 31,000-square-foot mansion.

But singing superstar Celine Dion has sold her four-bedroom, 12-bathroom home in an ultra-exclusive Las Vegas community for $30 million, according to property records—as the singer inadvertently profits off the surge in home prices in Southern Nevada over the past several years.

Considering that the Quebec-born Dion paid $9.2 million for the manse in 2017, the off-market sale a month ago means the multi-platinum-selling singer more than tripled her investment. Though Dion, who shared her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome last year, spent years on its renovation, building records show. That included an addition on the main level, remodeling a second-floor bedroom and adding extensive fencing, among other changes, public records show.

The 555-acre Summit Club describes itself as “Vegas’s only private residential lifestyle club community.” Tucked between Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the Las Vegas Strip, The Summit Club promises “five-star amenities, a championship golf course, and unique terrain-to-table culinary offerings.”

The community, which launched in 2015, was a joint venture between luxury developer Discovery Land Co. and the Howard Hughes Corp., which owns Summerlin’s land. Summerlin boasts some of the highest home and land prices in Nevada, according to Realtor.com. While the median listing home price was $720,000 in April, there are listings as high as $19.9 million for another Summit Club home.

Dion’s medical condition forced her to cancel he residency at the Resorts World Theater in Las Vegas in November 2021. She’s expected to resume performing in 2024. Dion still lives in the city with her sons by late ex-husband and manager Rene Angelil.

Dion has been in divestment mode lately. In April, the chanteuse sold her late mother’s 5,000-square-foot waterfront mansion in Laval, about 19 miles northeast of Montreal.

In 2017, when she moved from Florida to Las Vegas to begin her residency, Dion sold her $28 million Jupiter Island estate, which featured its own waterpark and river.  Reports say she now lives in a more manageable $1.2 million Las Vegas mansion with three bedrooms, a pool, and a semi-private golf course.

The buyer, listed in records as a limited liability company, is linked to Bay Area private-equity mogul Chuck Esserman and wife, Ivette, according to Dirt, which first reported the sale. Other residents in the affluent community are said to include actor Mark Wahlberg, VC honcho Marc Andreessen, motivational guru Tony Robbins, and Las Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley.

Representatives for Esserman declined comment, as did a spokesperson for Discovery Land Corporation, The Summit Club’s owner.

Actress and comedian Whitney Cummings has cut the price on her Los Angeles house about a month after listing it for sale.

Now asking $10.995 million, Cummings put the Woodland Hills home on the market for $12.995 million in mid-January, shortly after the catastrophic fires destroyed other parts of L.A.

Woodland Hills is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley bordering the Santa Monica Mountains and celebrity-favored Calabasas. The Topanga hiking trails are only 100 yards from the property, according to the listing with Adam Rosenfeld and Jon Grauman of the Agency/Grauman Rosenfeld Group.

Cummings, 42, bought the home using a trust, paying $4.3 million in 2019, records on PropertyShark show.

Built in 2004, the Mediterranean-style home spans about 6,800 square feet. Designed by interior designer-to-the-stars Jake Arnold, the house has rustic modern interiors, featuring arched doorways, exposed-beam ceilings, a curved plaster staircase and an adobe-style fireplace.

There are five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, and the primary suite has floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead out to a private deck that overlooks the mountains. The Italian-inspired primary bathroom has a sculptural soaking tub, a walk-in plaster shower and dual vanities.

Much of the first floor leads to the backyard, which is surrounded by landscaping that invokes the same Mediterranean feeling as the home’s white stucco exterior and red tile roof. There are multiple seating areas—both covered and not—a fire pit and a wet bar. A stone path leads to the pool, which has a sun shelf and a hot tub.

The property includes a contiguous lot, where a guest house or other dwelling could be built.

A representative for Cummings didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Joan Fontaine’s longtime Carmel Highlands, California, home is up for sale with a listing price of nearly $6 million.

The Hollywood Golden Age actress, best known for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock’s films “Rebecca” and “Suspicion,” for which she won an Academy Award, owned the coastal home from 1984 until her death at 96 years old in 2013, according to Coldwell Banker Realty, which is marketing the home.

The home’s ties to Fontaine are what first attracted CoCo Wood to it. She and her husband, Larry, had already been looking for a house in the area before they bought Fontaine’s in 2014.

Joan Fontaine is the only actress to have won an Oscar for acting in a Hitchcock film.

“I grew up with a mother who was an old-movie buff, and when I found out Joan Fontaine’s house was going to be shown at an open house, I ran over here,” Wood said.

Despite the home being “a mess” and the landscaping being overgrown, Wood said she fell in love with it. Her husband is an architect, and she’s worked with him on interior design, so the project didn’t seem too daunting to tackle.

The Woods bought the home from Fontaine’s estate, paying $2 million, according to county records.

With the purchase, the Woods acquired Fontaine’s book collection along with some other memorabilia, including a copy of an oil painting of the actress. It all lives in the home’s wood-paneled library, with the portrait hanging over the fireplace.

“They are going to be leaving a lot of that for the new owner,” said listing agent Tim Allen of Coldwell Banker Realty, who brought the home to the market earlier this month.

Wood also added a poster of Fontaine accepting her Oscar on the wall above where the actress kept her award, which sat on a small table at the bottom of a discreet staircase.

Wood said they sometimes see whale spouts from the home.

“This woman was so incredibly humble,” Wood said.

Built in 1965 and perched on a hillside, the home’s most striking feature is its view of the ocean, which can be seen from every room and most prominently from the west-facing deck, which the sellers rebuilt.

“When you walk out on that deck, you can hear the waves pounding against the rocks. It’s a visceral feeling you get when you walk out there,” Allen said.

The views are also prominent in Wood’s favorite room, the atrium-like breakfast nook, off a galley kitchen, where three large windows take in the ocean.

The 4,700-square-foot home has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half-bathroom. The 1-acre property is gated and has a detached two-car garage.

Living within the Carmel Highlands association grants homeowners a key to a private beach, which is within walking distance from the house, and the area has “lovely” streets for walking, Allen said.

Located along Highway 1, Carmel-by-the-Sea is only about 4 miles up the coast, allowing the property to enjoy the space and seclusion of the Highlands with Carmel and its museums, shopping and restaurants a convenient drive away.

“This type of home right in Carmel would be double with this kind of view,” Allen said.

The Woods, who also own a home in Westhampton, New York, won’t be going far.

“We’re minimalists, and while we have absolutely adored living here in this Old Hollywood home, our true love of architecture is very modern and contemporary, so we’re going to build that next door,” said Wood.
